Avery Riley and Amie Sumrall each scored twice in the Mustangs' 4-0 win over Conroe.

Magnolia West's Bryanna Salmeron kicks the ball in front of the Conroe goalie Maggie Blume during a high school soccer match at the Kat Cup soccer tournament at Willis High School, Friday, Jan. 13, 2023, in Willis.WILLIS — Magnolia West’s goal production faded the past two games. But under a bright sky and cold temperatures of a Friday morning at the Willis Kat Cup, the Mustangs offense heated up.

Magnolia West fell in the championship of its bracket at the Waller Classic last Saturday, 1-0, to Heights. It then opened up the Kat Cup Thursday with a 0-0 tie after regulation against Klein Collins before the Tigers won on penalty kicks. The winds weren’t as strong Friday as they were the day before. But it was still uncomfortably cold with an occasional light wind.

In the 11th minute, Avery Riley needed the first of two goals on the morning as Alayna Lawrence threaded her a pass up the middle.Amie Sumrall rushed through the middle of the Tigers defense and rolled the ball in. Just a minute before halftime, Sumrall found the back of the net again on another solid run.
