The quake occurred just before 9pm in Penrith, Geoscience Australia confirmed, saying the event took place at a depth of eight kilometres.

It was also felt in Silverdale, Orchard Hills, and the Blue Mountains with almost 3000 people saying they felt the tremors and logged "felt reports" with the agency.There have been no reports of any significant impacts.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology confirmed on X, the platform formally known as Twitter, that there was no tsunami threat following the quake."Did anyone else feel that?" NSW RFS posted. "A 3.6 magnitude earthquake has occurred around the Warragamba area, with tremors being felt across the Blue Mountains and western Sydney area."

People claimed they felt it in parts of The Hills region in north-west Sydney, while others in Bondi in eastern Sydney and some on the Central Coast also claimed they'd felt the tremor.
