French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed he will visit London in June as he promised a “new chapter” in cooperation between France and the United Kingdom
.to mark Britain’s exit from the EU, Macron urged the important of cooperation between Britain and France as well as the remaining 27 members of the bloc after the country’s departure.
“Ten years on from the Lancaster House Agreement, we must deepen our defense, security and intelligence cooperation,” he continued, referring to two treaties struck between the U.K. and France for defense and security cooperation in 2010. June 18 will be the 80th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle’s speech from exile in London during World War II, in which he appealed to French people to resist the occupation while awaiting U.K. and U.S. assistance.
