KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has offered to place a senior officer within the Sabah Chief Minister's office to deter corrupt practices.

Also present Sabah MACC director Datuk Sazali Salbi.The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has offered to place a senior officer within the Sabah Chief Minister's office to deter corrupt practices.

MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has responded positively to the suggestion for the placement of the"integrity officer", other than the formation of an integrity unit at each state. "The state itself will have an integrity unit, that is separate for the state administration, but we are also offering an additional integrity officer within CM's office," she said after paying a courtesy call to Shafie on Wednesday .

"As we have said to various representatives of states, not just Sabah, but also Sarawak, Kelantan, and Terengganu, we in MACC has offered to place a senior officer within the Chief Minister's office to ensure no opportunity for corruption. "During our meeting, the Sabah Chief Minister said he very much welcomes that suggestion, so we will be ironing out the details on placement. We will let you know soon," she said when asked when is the senior officer expected to come in.She also said MACC is continuing to push the respective state leaders to declare assets as a first step to prevent corruption.
