GEORGE TOWN: Twelve police personnel including a senior officer from the police headquarters here have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged involvement in a bribery scheme to protect overloaded lorries.
It was believed that the suspects from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department were arrested in Penang in a special operation conducted by MACC on Tuesday .
"Yes, they were arrested in Penang, all of them are police personnel and officers," he said.Last year, MACC arrested more than 70 Road Transport Department officers, who were believed to have collected bribes of between RM10,000 and RM36,000 each month not to take action against overloaded lorries.
