Una crisis global de hambre hace que más de 700 millones de personas no sepan cuándo volverán a comer de nuevo o si podrán hacerlo, y la demanda de alimentos sube sin cesar mientras los fondos humanitarios se agotan, dijo la jefa de la agencia alimentaria de Naciones Unidas el jueves.
Debido a la falta de financiamiento, el Programa Mundial de Alimentos se ha visto obligado a recortar las raciones de alimentos a millones de personas, explicó la directora ejecutiva del PMA, Cindy McCain, al Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU, y advirtió que “hay más recortes en camino”.
En la base del incremento está la “letal combinación de conflictos, crisis económicas, condiciones climáticas extremas y el alza del precio de los fertilizantes”, indicó el PMA. El objetivo no es únicamente el financiamiento, indicó, sino encontrar soluciones innovadoras para ayudar a los más necesitados.
