PETALING JAYA: Rare earth producer Lynas Corp has said that social media posts linking them to videos of a barge containing bauxite sinking in Kuantan waters are false.
They said that the Kuantan Port had clarified the incident did not happen in Malaysian waters and that the material on the barge was nickel ore and not bauxite.
Video clips of a barge supposedly carrying 'radioactive ore' from Australia to Lynas breaking into two and polluting the sea around Kuantan have been spreading on social media recently.“The commentary being pushed on social media continues a pattern of disinformation promoted by anti-Lynas activists over many years.
“We support our local assemblyman in calling for people to obtain information from genuine sources before they share it on social media.
