KULIM, June 11 — Malaysians who are victims of job scams and find themselves stranded in foreign countries are those easily swayed by advertisements on social media offering job opportunities with attractive salaries and other benefits.
The root cause is the tendency to be easily manipulated into believing the social media campaigns where they are offered lucrative income, comfortable accommodation, paid plane fares and all kinds of things when working abroad. Yesterday, Bernama reported that the mother of Chong Sum Yee, 22, a Malaysian woman believed to be missing in Chiang Mai, Thailand, does not believe the viral videos of her daughter claiming she is safe and healthy.
Saifuddin Nasution said the woman’s disappearance has been left to the police to investigate and so far he has not received any updates on the case.
