Rapid Rail has announced that from December 31, the LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line will implement women’s coaches on its trains. It would be the third rail line under Rapid Rail to have a women’s coach, after the

The train operator says that the initiative is to offer a more comfortable journey for women passengers, which make up 60% of total riders on Rapid KL trains. With the women’s coach, it is hoped that ladies will feel more at ease and worry less about their safety, the company says. It adds that since the women’s coach initiative started on the MRT Kajang Line, the number of harassment cases have declined by 22% as of November 2024. The difference is even bigger on the MRT Putrajaya Line, which recorded 50% less such cases since April this year.

It’s impossible to miss. The LRT Ampang/Sri Petaling Line’s 36 stations and 45 trains will feature pink stickers and signage as seen on the MRT. The women’s coach is in the middle of the train set, specifically coaches three and four. As with the MRT, the women’s coach can be used by all females and male children aged 12 and below who are accompanied by a female guardian. OKU and their guardians can be in any coach – they get top priority. Rapid Rail reminds ladies to first utilise the women’s coach and leave room for the other passengers in the normal coaches. Periodic monitoring will be conducted by auxiliary police officers in the trains and stations.
