Only 10% of Malaysian SMEs have registered their products with MyIPO, despite the corporation's efforts to encourage protection of intellectual property. The text highlights the importance of registration for SMEs and calls for increased awareness and participation.

Only an estimated 10 percent of local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have registered their products, including logos, with the Malaysia Intellectual Property Corporation (MyIPO). MyIPO chairman, Dr. Mohd. Zuhan Mohd. Zain said that last year, a total of 65,660 applications were made, with 51,591 of them registered. For 2023, 61,600 applications were submitted for patent protection under MyIPO, with over 45,000 of them registered.

'The number of local SMEs that have patented their products and brands is still small compared to the more than 200,000 entrepreneurs in Malaysia. 'Therefore, we have set a target of up to 70,000 registrations, including SMEs and individuals, to protect their brands this year,' he told reporters after attending a MyIPO program at Hati which was held at Masjid Taman Pulai Indah, here today. Meanwhile, literary works recorded the highest number of copyright applications last year with 7,382 applications made compared to other fields in the country. According to Mohd. Zuhan, this was followed by 993 applications in the arts field, while 329 applications were made in the film industry.-UTUSAN
