PETALING JAYA: Mixed pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying’s hopes of salvaging a respectable result in their last European outing have gone up in smoke.

The world No. 8 failed to live up to their status as the fourth seeds at the Hylo Open after going down 20-22, 21-15, 16-21 to Denmark’s world No. 43 Mikkel Mikkelsen-Rikke Soby in Saarbrucken, Germany yesterday.

It was also their second opening-round exit after they were sent packing by Hong Kong’s world No. 32 Chang Tak Ching-Ng Wing Yung at the Denmark Open. The Rio Olympics silver medallists can’t afford any more slip-ups if they want to make the top-eight cut for the season-ending Tour Finals. They are currently in sixth place.
