Horseriders are furious they can only ride on a small section of the new Tweed rail trail, despite being part of the funding pitch.
Tweed-Byron trail rider Deb Minto is unhappy that only 2km will be offered to riders on a trial basis.abc.net.au/news/horses-excluded-from-tweed-rail-trail-apart-from-2km-section/101851804The long-awaited $14 million Tweed rail trail is set to open in weeks, but horseriders are angry by a late lockout from the tourist asset.
Horseriding was featured in the promotional video used to get funding for the trail, but riders will now be excluded from most of the route. "Where we've landed is a trial horseriding shared section on the formation, on the actual path itself, in Burringbar for a distance of about 2.2km."Mr Lonsdale said the state government did not provide funding for maintenance, and surface erosion was a potential concern."With a constructed surface that can be damaged by hoofed animals, we felt it is an unnecessary financial burden," Mr Lonsdale said.
