TikTok got an apparent reprieve from being forced to shut down, but Americans on Jan 20 were still using and downloading Xiaohongshu, the Chinese social media app that surged in popularity last week in anticipation of TikTok’s closure.

"I was around 15 or 16 at the time. I've never taken the bus to school and would only walk," Shila, 34, said. Describing herself as someone who dislikes being late, Shila would leave the house early in the morning so she could arrive at school before 7am. But while walking to school one day, two men riding on a motorcycle approached her, and one of them began touching her inappropriately.“When women face sexual harassment, if we're not the ones in their shoes, it’s easy for us to tell them to shout for help or so on.
