The House is on the hunt for its next speaker and could vote as early as Wednesday after holding candidate forums Tuesday.
The meeting, which started at 10 a.m., is still going. A few lawmakers, like Rep. Victoria Spartz , have stepped outside momentarily to take calls, only to rush back inside. Rep.
Nick LaLota, one of four New York Republicans who have yet to say how they will vote, has been in deep conversation with someone outside the doors for a while, as a few dozen reporters have crowded the hallway. LaLota represents a district on the eastern end of Long Island that Joe Biden won in the 2020 presidential election with 49.5 percent of the vote, one of the thinnest margins of victory that year.
