Donald Trump's accused of being part of a criminal racket that unlawfully tried to overturn Joe Biden's 2020 election win in Georgia.
Eighteen other people are accused of being part of the racket too. The written indictment says they "refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome". It outlines a bunch of ways they're accused of doing that, including organising a fake slate of electors to misrepresent how the state voted.
They've all been charged with multiple felonies, including breaking Georgia's racketeering law, known as RICO.The charges were filed last Monday, after a grand jury voted that Trump and his associates had a case to answer – a process of formally accusing someone of a crime, known in the US as "indicting" them.
At the time, the local district attorney, Fani Willis, ordered the 19 accused to "voluntarily surrender" to the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta. She gave them until midday Friday, local time, to do so.
