Mr Pearson told media “we are in the main game” as just over two weeks remain before the referendum deadline. “It is absolutely vital we win this referendum,” he said. “I have reflected on what I have learned from listening to thousands of my fellow Australians and the thousands whose intentions in this referendum I could not be sure of. “I have come to see it is the love of our country that joins us all as Australians. “It is not the same as patriotism because there is nothing political about this love of country – rather, it is about the wondrous land and seas.”

‘This amendment is constitutionally safe’: Noel Pearson on the Voice referendumLeading ‘Yes’ campaigner Noel Pearson says the Voice referendum is “constitutionally safe” and will recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first peoples of Australia. Mr Pearson addressed the National Press Club where he called on Australians to take advantage of the country’s “last best hope” for reconciliation. “Law can assure us this referendum will uphold the constitution and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as the first peoples of Australia. “This amendment is constitutionally safe and will adorn our founding law. “It is not inequality to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were the owners of Australia since time immemorial; it is simply the truth.”

‘My people are a good people’: Noel Pearson calls for end to ‘alienation’‘Yes’ campaigner Noel Pearson says his 'people are a good people” and the alienation of Indigenous Australians mustn’t be prolonged. Mr Pearson said Indigenous Australians should not be “feared or despised” amid the upcoming Voice to Parliament referendum on October 14. “They have much to contribute to their country if only they be given the chance to,” he said. The ‘Yes’ campaigner said the Voice legislation is a “modest” but “profound” proposal. “An advisory body in the constitution to which the parliament and government will listen to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples so we get better results for Indigenous people and for the country.”
