The Nationals leader said he was 'proud of the Matildas' after their heroic win over France, but added he did not agree with calls for a public holiday should they go on to win the World Cup.
Nationals leader David Littleproud has insisted he is"proud of the Matildas" following their win over France, but said he disagrees with calls for a public holiday should the team go on to win the World Cup.
"We live in a great nation – we can celebrate our wins – but we have to get on and pay the bills and make sure that the country keeps going." The Council of Small Business Organisations Australia warned on Friday that declaring a public holiday would create a big imposition for businesses and cause major disruption. On Saturday, he claimed a holiday could even prove a boom for the economy, pointing to similar concerns raised after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
