While the people of Turkey are angry about its government's response to the earthquakes that shook the country, the biggest focus right now is to help, one man said.

Turks living in central Pennsylvania are left feeling like any help they give can never be enough after two large earthquakes devastated the eastern region of Turkey on Monday.

Ozdogan said his family needed to leave their home because the building collapsed. Instead, they moved to a barn on the rural side of Elazig, the city they live in. While they had no heat or water, they were safe under the barn, which did not collapse in the three days they stayed there. “If you follow social media in Turkey, it is really terrible. They had to leave their families’ bodies under the rubble because they were buried there,” Yuce said.

Hospitals have collapsed, preventing people from being able to treat injuries suffered in building collapses. Even the Marash region’s emergency disaster response building has collapsed. Yuce described much of the concrete as having been reduced to sand, and said the Turkish people are questioning the standards of construction in the country.
