But after winning the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021, and advancing to the final again last year before losing to the Colorado Avalanche, a trust has developed.
Lightning captain Steven Stamkos says fatigue has been a factor in the malaise of the past month. He candidly acknowledges the team has let some games slip away recently.Article content “Teams are gunning for you every night,” Stamkos said. “They’re playing their best, and sometimes you’re in a city on a Tuesday night and maybe you’re not quite as amped up as the other team. It’s something that, as a professional, you don’t want to admit that you’re not going out there , because we are. We’re trying to win every single night. There are just some nights when you don’t have it and the other team is a little more pumped up to play, especially with the success that we’ve had.
“Of course, there are times when things aren’t going well and you’ve got to lay down the hammer a little bit,” Stamkos said, with a smile. “But we’ve been fortunate in the last six or seven years. Things have gone well.”
