Licorice maker struggles to find staff even with borders open

Even with backpackers able to return, Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory are struggling to find enough staff to operate at full capacity.

Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory sales and marketing manager Rhiannon Druce says it isn’t just the lack of backpackers returning to Australia which has contributed to theWhile lockdowns and international border closures may be a thing of the past as the world attempts to live with the coronavirus, many businesses are still struggling to find staff to allow them to return to full production.

“I think it’s definitely a post-COVID thing. Originally, we thought it was to do with border closures and not having enough backpackers coming through,” Ms Druce told“We thought once lockdowns and regulations and mandates [ended] that things would go back to normal, or a new form of normal, but it hasn’t.”

Ms Druce said the pandemic changed many people’s views on work, including working from home, cutting back hours, or trying their hand at something new.
