Letters to the Editor — Ukraine, daylight saving time, U.S. oil, Keystone XL pipeline, recycling | Letters

Readers hope the world continues to work together for peace; are tired of the phrase “follow the science,” disagree with Rep. Roger Williams’ opinions about drilling more to fix the energy crisis; and complain about no recycling pickup.

We’ve seen what can be accomplished when we cooperate, and if we seize this opportunity, we can ban war forever. Our Senate agreed unanimously to make daylight saving time permanent. How fascinating! Democrats and Republicans agreed on something they think Americans want. Did anyone consult the experts? Remember the new catch phrase born from COVID-19, “We follow the science”?

I served in Iraq for over 14 months and agree with U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, that the war in Ukraine is a “wake-up call” for American energy independence. However, he draws the completely wrong conclusion. More of the same will just produce more of the same. The answer isn’t more oil. It’s a swift transition to American renewable energy.

The Ukraine conflict is delivering a new world order, and I encourage Rep. Williams, and all American policymakers, to avoid language intended to weaken America’s resolve to lead the change.Rep. Roger Williams says that President Joe Biden has declared war on U.S. energy. Time for a pop quiz! Williams also says, ”Democrats and the Biden administration are pushing to advance their Green New Deal agenda.” When was the Green New Deal signed into law? Trick question! It never was. It’s just a lazy Republican talking point meant to scare people.
