— Re: “Woman’s treasure from a globetrotting career on display — Collection is featured through summer at museum in Lufkin,” Monday Metro story.
I was immensely impressed with the vocational adventures of Angier Peavy. She turned her work into a hobby. Too few people know how to do that.Throughout her 50-plus year career, she learned so much and it’s wonderful she is sharing that knowledge with others. Her entire career‘s philosophy of life is so beautifully expressed in the quote that motivated her achievements: “For me, I want to see what other people are thinking and doing whether or not I agree with them. Listening doesn’t cost you anything or compromise your principles.”— Re: “My old broom and I know what’s ahead — There’s a desperate, growing need for affordable elder care,” by Chistopher de Vinck, June 25 Opinion.
I find myself as the old, worn-out broom, and can relate completely. I loved when de Vinck said he took to heart this proverb: “A new broom sweeps clean, but an old broom knows the corners.” I honestly don’t think a young person would get much out of reading this column, but they should. After all, we’re all going to be old brooms one day.
