Thank you, editorial staff, for your courage to call out “the lies at the root of these tragedies.” May unbiased reporting and truth based upon facts be your trademark. The Buffalo shooting furthers the narrative on how to prevent such atrocities.
You probably know that. All of us have some skin in the game to speak up. If you are a co-worker, an executive, a student or a boy scout, the potential shooters need to hear you speaking, at a rally, in a sermon, in the news, one to one. The truth is that until there is a real soul-searching reckoning of the hate-filled hearts of so many in this country, nothing will change. With the prevalence of white Christian ideology in so many of our worship centers, little will change. As long as politicians like our own Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz, in order to win elections, can stir their base with cries of an “invasion” of immigrants and the threat of white replacement if diversity and equity are promoted, nothing will change.
Much like the Florida high school and Sutherland Springs church shooters, these gunmen were either being watched or were known to law enforcement agencies and should’ve been banned from gun ownership altogether. Yet they slipped through the cracks and still managed to wreak havoc.
