Looking at the paltry list of bills that were passed in the 88th session, I can firmly say that our Legislature is asleep at the wheel. All of the gun...

There is also a question of why our governor wants to strip local governments of their ability to raise taxes as needed for school districts. Is this just another way to eventually do away with public schools or create an educational system where those who can afford private schools get extra help while all others are left with unfunded schools that often underperform? This clearly creates a system that is segregated based on social and economic standing.

We cringe as the Legislature begins and then wait for the disasters they will perpetrate on their constituents. And here we are! Did they fix the grid? No. In the 2021 winter storm, we waited 58 hours for electric restoration, and now the same companies that put us in the dark are getting bonuses and payments to build more fossil fuel-burning generating plants.

In Texas, nothing good for consumers lasts long. Shortly after we signed a five-year contract with MP2 Energy, Shell Energy stepped in, taking over MP2, and the Oncor delivery fees are again outrageous. While the panels generate enough electricity to power my home, I have to pay to get it delivered to my home. Price to avoid all that: a $12,000 battery. Vote them out!Re: “Schools fret over safety law — Districts worry they’ll struggle to pay for officers mandated by state,” June 3 news story.

The two representatives quoted supporting the legislation, Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, and Ken King, R-Canadian, are highly rated and praised by the National Rifle Association. One must regretfully conclude that these gentlemen and their compatriots value the benefits of their association with the NRA more than they do the safety, well-being and security of the children and families of Texas.

But according to the National Rifle Association , that slippery slope is etched in stone and no compromise allowed! Unfortunately, when the gun industry snaps their whip, our so-called leaders jump. On a recent vacation that included The Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary, I found many people knew of our policies in Texas, and none of them were impressed. I began to tell folks I was from Texas, but was not a supporter of our politics.
