Too often one’s own opinion is the only right way. Wise men such as McCaa cite Benjamin Franklin, who when asked what form of government he and the others gathered in Philadelphia planned to give the new nation they hoped to found, he replied, ”A republic, if you can keep it.” A worthy reminder!Anne R. That’s why the Ferguson Road Initiative eagerly awaits the opening of the first phase of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail. The trail is one part of our strategy to address the recreation desert that currently exists. I can’t believe that this issue is back. Sixty years ago, when I was in the first grade in Fort Worth, the person who read the morning announcements closed with a little prayer, followed by, “In Jesus’ name we pray.” I turned gray. I asked my teacher for permission to go to the office and she let me. I found the principal and said to him, “I’m sorry, but we don’t pray to Jesus.”

In this country, freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. Prayer has no business in public schools. The last time I checked, the United States still believes in the separation of church from state.
