I was too young to vote for John F. Kennedy in 1960. I was only 17. I mourn his death more now than before, because of what has happened to his party. It seems few today can remember his favorite saying, “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”

However, the spirit of the proposed “reinvention” is not one of explanation, but of interpretation. This manifests itself in design features — like an elevated overlook and “memorial pools” — that fundamentally change, even beautify, a place of horror that forever changed our city and nation. Since drivers cannot get to the I-35E on-ramp from Main Street, the traffic would flow into the already gridlocked intersection of Commerce Street and Riverfront Boulevard, right in front of the Frank Crowley Criminal Courts Building and Lew Sterrett Justice Center . A few thousand people, including me, work and visit there daily. That intersection is already terrible at rush hour.

Reimagining Dealey Plaza is a beautiful dream, but this plan is just that. Head back to the drawing board and come up with a viable solution to the traffic issues.Re: “Almost check-out time — Short-term rentals in single-family neighborhoods may be banned,” by Sharon Grigsby, Sunday Metro column.
