Letters to the Editor

In a state where more than 95% of land is privately owned and drought wreaks havoc on our rivers and lakes, countless Texans are standing in support of the efforts to protect affordable public access to the outdoors and a world-class fishing lake. Resort vacations in far-flung locations can be prohibitively expensive for many families, but a tank of gas and a cooler of sandwiches make for a wonderful vacation at a place like Fairfield Lake State Park.

David Litman, Garrett Boone, Mary McDermott Cook, Rod Sanders, George Bristol, Morton H. Meyerson, Martha V. Leonard, Brent A. Brown, Trammell S. CrowI am trying to catch a monster bass at Fairfield State Park. I know the monster bass is there. But how will I catch him if the park is bulldozed? I have enjoyed watching the beautiful birds in the trees, the leaves changing in the fall and spending time with my husband and father-in-law going fishing at this beautiful little slice of heaven.

Congratulations to DeMarcus Ware for induction into the Ring Of Honor. Appears to be a great guy and teammate. But all the focus on Jerry Jones and snubbing Jimmy Johnson cannot be ignored. Texas public schools place a priority on writing skills for all students K-12. To that end, the Texas Education Agency sets standards for each grade level that align to guide students towards producing sophisticated writing in many genres by the time they graduate.
