There are thousands of short-term rentals that fall outside the regulatory framework because enforcement is nonexistent, even after years of promising that oversight would be improved. As a result, there has been an explosion of speculative, often out-of-town investing in neighborhood houses and accessory dwelling unit inventory that is ultimately taken off the affordable roster and converted to higher-return, short-term rental investments.
Express-News business columnist Michael Taylor’s recent take on the Missions’ planned stadium move was right on point.
