After former President Donald Trump recently announced his intention to run in 2024, fools had to say something, says a reader.Re: “Few in Texas GOP step up to embrace Trump’s ’24 run,” Front page, Nov. 17:
This brought to mind Greek philosopher Plato’s quip, “Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.”I almost couldn’t believe this letter was published and people were able to keep a straight face. Have the Democrats forgotten that they spent President Donald Trump’s entire four years doing the same thing?
I do not feel this behavior is OK by either party, but at the same time it’s not by any means a GOP solo act.A letter to Beto O’Rourke was published with a request for him to stop running, so perhaps another letter is appropriate. You should keep going, Beto, because you are a decent person and the type of politician who thinks with your heart. You have a passion for justice and healing in our community. You reject the way some people, such as Gov. Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton and other Republicans, try to build on fear of others, taking us down dark roads of hatred and division.
