No one with any sense of decency would use a commercial to question Sakai's judgment over a ruling he made nearly 20 years ago as a family court judge, returning a 2-year-old child to her mother on the recommendation of child welfare professionals, only for the mother to beat the child to death weeks later. Sakai suffered extreme anguish over the decision and deserves our respect for the countless hours he labored as a judge making difficult calls.
He has a compelling desire to serve and help all the people from all over Texas. As the Express-News Editorial Board wrote in its recommendation: “O’Rourke wants Texans to be safe, healthy and free to make personal and family choices without government intervention. He wants our children to attend quality schools without fear of being shot. He wants businesses and top talent to come here because they know the power will stay on — and our leaders recognize our diversity is our greatest strength.
