I can say that Chicago is far more dog-friendly than most big cities.

Sept. 4): Has Hecker lived in any other city with a dog? I’m a Gen Xer who lived in Colorado for almost a decade before coming back to her native Chicago, and I can say that Chicago ismore dog-friendly than most big cities. When I lived in Denver, not only did my apartment building not permit dogs, but also back then, the city had a pit bull ban.

If, as Hecker says, people choose to get a dog that needs copious off-leash time, it would be prudent if they didn’t confine the dog to a crowded city in a small apartment. In other words, consider your circumstances before bringing a furry friend home.In response to Patrick Hecker’s op-ed on Chicago’s restrictive dog policies, a convenient solution exists for dog owners who want their pups to run free, safely and unleashed.

So everyone say their names. Look at their pictures. Listen to their stories because our child, our sibling, our grandchild, our friend, they all have meaning, and they all are loved. Many thanks to the Active Transportation Alliance, the Chicago Police Department and the many volunteers who made Sunday’s Bike the Drive such a wonderful adventure.
