Letter: 'Sexual feelings are sacred, and God given. They are intended to be used to show love and affection in marriage and used to bring children into a family.'
Copies of "Liahona," "The Friend" and "For the Strength of Youth," three publications by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As someone who has a church calling to oversee the instruction of youth I was interested to, “Many LDS teens see dueling advice on sex in new ‘For the Strength of Youth’ pamphlet.”
I would like to add that there is nothing confusing in the pamphlet’s definition of pornography: “a representation, in pictures or words, that is designed to arouse sexual feelings.” Please note the word choice of “designed.” Pornography is intentionally designed to arouse sexual feelings. There is no sin and should be no shame in feeling sexually attracted to someone you find attractive.
Jesus taught in Matthew 5:27-28, “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” And the Book of Mormon prophet King Benjamin said in Mosiah 4:30, “But this much I can tell you, that if ye do not watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds, and observe the commandments of God, … even unto the end of your lives, ye must perish. And now, O man, remember, and perish not.”
Sexual feelings are sacred, and God given. They are intended to be used to show love and affection in marriage and used to bring children into a family. Again, feeling sexual attraction is not a sin, letting those attractions dwell in your mind to the point of turning to lust and intentionally arousing sexual feelings is sin. Feeling attracted to someone is a normal part of finding a spouse with whom you can enjoy a sexual relationship with.
