I am a social worker with the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s community outreach and support team. Our team serves people in Saskatoon with some of the most complex mental health and substance use diagnoses in the city.and Meadowgreen areas and I have seen firsthand how the pilot project has enabled these clients to remain connected to our health-care team.
Without Wi-Fi, many of our clients are unable to make phone calls or send text messages to connect with their addictions counsellors, social workers, and community mental health nurses. Because so many of our clients are unhoused or are housed in precarious situations, we do not always know where to find them.
We search for them in the community, but are often reliant on calls, text messages and social media to make important connections to ensure these clients receive needed supports and medications. The free Wi-Fi project has made connecting with many of these clients possible and, as a result, they have received needed care. Free Wi-Fi in these core neighbourhoods means that important connections to health care are being made possible. We deliver the local news you need in these turbulent times on weekdays at 3 p.m.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
