A rescue operation organized by a local family on Kangaroo Island transported injured koalas from areas devastated by bushfires. Though one koala died in the process, the family took the rest of the distressed animals to receive care.

Since the wildfires began in September, more than 12.35 million acres of land have burned and more than 1,630 homes.
