The new policy comes as Republican leaders have ramped up efforts to ban books in Texas and across the country. Many of the books banned focus on titles with themes about race and LGBTQ issues.Most efforts to ban books in Texas schools came from 1 politician and GOP pressure, not parents Reed said that people from a variety of organizations are going to libraries across the country to have books removed from school and public libraries.
Anyone can submit a request to challenge a book in Leon Valley. Before Tuesday's vote, the request went before the library’s board of trustees and then to Reed for a final decision. Now, these decisions will go from the board to the City Council.The American Library Association said it tracked an unprecedented four-fold increase in efforts to ban books last year.
