First pediatric patient to undergo scoliosis surgery from robotic arm | SaltWire- Nicholas Denys one of the leading figures in the French territory known as Acadia for over half of the 17th century, that comprised the traditional ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq people known as Mi’kma’ki, was baptized on this day in the parish of Saint-Saturnin at Tours, France.
One of the Planter’s landing areas was Boudreau's Bank , now known as Starr’s Point, King’s County, bordering the southwest by the formerly named Riviére des Grand-Habitants . The river and district were later renamed Cornwallis. Codenamed Operation OVERLORD, D-Day was, and remains, the largest ever seaborne invasion in history, involving close to 150,000 troops crossing the English Channel by sea and air, with 5,000 landing and assault crafts, 289 escort vessels, and 277 minesweepers.
Many men from Nova Scotia had participated in D-Day, including brigadier-general Harry Wickwire Foster , who led the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade landing on Juno Beach. He was later promoted to major-general and would command the 4th Canadian Division in the liberation through France and Belgium, as well as command of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division in the Italian campaign, and finally, in the liberation of the Netherlands in Northwest Europe.
However, not all accepted the new British settlement called Halifax, and in early September a number of Mi’kmaq Chiefs from the French colony of Ile Royale , incited by their French missionaries, expressed their opposition to the settlement in a letter to Cornwallis, warning that it would be attacked. Cornwallis considered such a threat as a violation of the 1725 Treaty.
