The rift in Irish football has been exposed once again, as parties on both sides of failed EGM vote issue statements.
The Leinster Football Association has called for another Emergency General Meeting of the FAI to take place on Saturday December 2, amid fears that Government funding to Irish football could be cut in half.
The motion that was voted on won out by a 67 percent to 33 percent margin, but that fell short of the 75 percent supermajority that was required. This led immediately to fears that state funding would be slashed. The Government has stated that there must be 40 percent female representation on the FAI board by the end of the year.
“The LFA proposal will ask members to vote to increase the Board of the FAI from 12 to 14 with the addition of two female directors to come from within the football community. “The LFA regards this as a missed opportunity to debate a real alternative to the proposal put forward by the Board of the FAI which subsequently failed to meet the 75 per cent yes vote needed to pass.“By adding two female directors from within Irish football, this proposal offers a clear pathway to the Board of the FAI for the growing number of females working diligently across all levels of our game.
