(Reuters) - Leicester City's England under-21 midfielder Hamza Choudhury has been fined 5,000 pounds by the FA for historical comments made on social media that included racial references.
Choudhury posted a series of tweets in 2013 and 2014, some of which had racial references and one which criticised women's football. He was charged with misconduct by the FA last week.
"Hamza Choudhury has been fined 5,000 pounds and ordered to attend an FA education course by an Independent Regulatory Commission after he admitted to an 'aggravated breach' of FA Rule E3," the FA said in a statement. "Comments posted by the Leicester player on social media... which included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or sexual orientation, were found to be abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute."Choudhury has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Leicester this season. They are ninth before hosting Chelsea in their final Premier League match of the season on Sunday.
