The Sofronoff inquiry’s damning findings against Shane Drumgold continue to cause the ACT government headaches as Bruce Lehrmann confirms he is seeking a multi-million-dollar compensation claim.
Mr Lehrmann gave his first television interview since the inquiry report – which found the ACT chief prosecutor had lost objectivity in the case – was released.
But the headaches will continue for the ACT government after Mr Lehrmann confirmed on Sunday night he will launch a massive compensation claim. Mr Lehrmann refused to put a specific figure on any claim, but when pushed by Seven’s Liam Bartlett if it would be as high as $6 million, he said: “Yeah.” Bruce Lehrmann said he would be launching a multi-million-dollar defamation claim. The inquiry found it was “improper” for Mr Drumgold to put it to Senator Reynolds or the jury that she was politically invested in the trial, and ultimately found his actions were “grossly unethical”.
