Breaking: Bruce Lehrmann has been given the green light to sue Network Ten and News Corp for defamation over interviews airing Brittany Higgins’ rape allegation.

Former federal Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann has been given the green light to sue Network Ten and News Corp for defamation over interviews airing Brittany Higgins’ rape allegation, after a judge extended an expired limitation period. The ProjectBruce Lehrmann enters the Federal Court in Sydney last month.

Lee found Lehrmann’s lawyers had established it was not reasonable for him to file the case within a year of the interviews. Lee noted that a key issue in dispute in the proceedings was the content of the advice given to Lehrmann at this time, and said text messages Lehrmann sent to his then-girlfriend and a friend were an unreliable basis on which to conclude he was advised he would never face a criminal charge.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge. His trial was aborted in October last year due to juror misconduct. The charge was later dropped altogether amid concerns about Higgins’ mental health. Lehrmann has always maintained his innocence.

ACMA being used as a vehicle for Kevin Rudd’s ‘vindictive crusade’ against Sky NewsACMA being used as a vehicle for Kevin Rudd’s ‘vindictive crusade’ against Sky NewsThe Australian Communications and Media Authority foolishly allowed itself to be used as a vehicle for Ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd’s “vindictive crusade,” according to Sky News host Andrew Bolt. Mr Bolt’s remarks come after the ACMA rejected 72 of the former prime minister’s 80 complaints about ten episodes of Sky News Australia’s Outsiders program, which were broadcast between October and December 2021. Mr Bolt provided two examples of the mistakes found by the ACMA, which Sky News host Rowan Dean made during his ‘Ice Age Watch’ segment on Outsiders that justify the “witchhunt”. “Global warming is grossly exaggerated ... and one of the worst panic merchants, of course, has been Kevin Rudd and shame now on ACMA for letting Kevin Rudd use that authority for his vendetta against us for pointing this out,” he said.

Prince Harry probably blames ‘spare’ status for coronation seating assignmentPrince Harry probably blames ‘spare’ status for coronation seating assignmentPrince Harry probably doesn’t even question what he’s done to be assigned to sit ten rows back at King Charles’ coronation but must think it’s because he’s a “spare”, says royal commentator and biographer Angela Levine. “He blames the fact that he’s back there, the tenth row, because he’s spare … because he’s always had the bad hand,' Ms Levine told Sky News host Paul Murray. “He’d say he’s been put in row ten because … people don’t care about him. I don’t think he thinks ...‘what have I done to be put here?’ Let’s try and make amends’. “I mean he’s just asking for everybody to apologise to him privately, individually, but it would take months because he’s got hundreds of complaints about how they behave but he’s got nothing, not one, that is his fault.
