LegendsOfTomorrow showrunner Keto Shimizu didn't want to kill off Sara Lance in Arrow season 3: 'I was vocal about my opposition, but in the end we had no choice but to do it,' Shimizu said.

Legends of Tomorrow boss Keto Shimizu talks about how she opposed Sara Lance's Arrow death back in season 3 of the Arrowverse drama. Despite the many shake-ups this year, the Arrowverse is turning 10 years old as of this October, with Arrow premiering back in 2012. Throughout the Arrowverse's time, The CW has been able to bring multiple DC Comics characters to life from several beloved superheroes and villains.

One of the most popular characters in the whole Arrowverse is Sara Lance, who was an essential part of Legends of Tomorrow for all 7 seasons. While Sara became the captain of the Waverider, Caity Lotz's beloved heroine was part of a different team initially. In Arrow season 2, Lotz came into the series, revealing that Laurel Lance's little sister was actually alive this whole time.

One of the writers from Arrow was Keto Shimizu, who went on to become a co-showrunner on Legends of Tomorrow alongside Phil Klemmer. In a Q&A with the @CampaignLegends Twitter page, Shimizu was asked about penning Sara's arc for several seasons, including her time on Arrow.

Despite Sara's long legacy through Legends of Tomorrow, it's perfectly understandable why Shimizu would be against killing the character off. Sara could have passed on the Canary mantle to Laurel and left the show before starring in Legends of Tomorrow. While many characters have died in the Arrowverse, Sara's death was one of the most shocking ones, and if there were plans to do a spinoff, she could have just been left off-screen without having to be so brutally murdered.
