PETALING JAYA: The lawyer for the parents of autistic six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, who was found dead about 200m from his home in Damansara Damai on Dec 6 last year, has announced that he will no longer represent them.

Mahmud Jumaat said he could no longer represent the couple as he needed to focus on his other cases, Berita Harian reported.“I pray that this case proceeds smoothly according to the legal process,” he was quoted as saying.

Zayn’s parents were remanded until June 7 to assist in an investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code.The autopsy results reportedly revealed signs of self-defence wounds, while the cause of death was injuries to the neck believed to be caused by strangulation.In January, Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said police had recorded the statements of more than 200 people in connection with the case.
