KUANTAN: Pakatan Harapan's Khairil Khalid faces a daunting task contesting in a Barisan Nasional stronghold but he is counting on his experience as a city councillor to appeal to voters.
The 33-year-old lawyer knows he was the underdog in his fight for the Pulau Manis state seat in Pekan, the parliamentary constituency formerly held by the jailed Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Khairil was contesting against the incumbent Datuk Khairuddin Mahmud from Barisan Nasional and Mohammad Rafiq Khan Ahmad Khan from Perikatan Nasional. "Despite being under the parliamentary constituency of Pekan, a large part of Pulau Manis falls under the Kuantan City Council, so a large part of the constituents is considered urban or semi-urban.
"During the past two years, these issues and problems have been overcome thanks to the efforts and cooperation of Puchong folks, MBSJ and the Pakatan-led Selangor government.
