Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) called out the media for focusing on her controversial behavior during a performance of Beetlejuice in Denver as opposed to other threats facing the county.
“I was a little too eccentric,” Boebert said during a One America News interview on Sunday. “I’m very known for having an animated personality, maybe overtly animated personality. I was laughing, I was singing, having a fantastic time.”The Republican congresswoman was ejected from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts with a male companion last week, with patrons saying they were being disruptive, vaping and using photos during the performance.
“We just had Kevin McCarthy, the Speaker of the House, announce an impeachment inquiry yesterday,” Boebert said. “We're facing a government shutdown and trying to fund the federal government. We have a wide-open southern border. We have Zelensky threatening to send refugees here.” Boebert said she was told to quiet down, and she complied, but was escorted out after taking a picture. Security footage shows the Republican vaping during the performance, which she previously denied before apologizing by saying she “fell short” of her values.
“The past few days have been difficult and humbling,” Boebert said in a statement released Friday. “While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did, and I regret that.”Footage from the event showed the unidentified male groping Boebert, which the congresswoman did not comment on in her apology or any media comments.
Boebert has adamantly denied any claims that she was arguing with patrons before her removal from Denver theater. Boebert denied that she stated, “I will be contacting the mayor,” saying on Sunday, “I don't know why I would ever call the Denver mayor. I think he would have tried to lock me up.”
