A heritage trail featuring Lau Pa Sat's rich history will launch on June 27.
SINGAPORE – The iconic Lau Pa Sat food centre in the Central Business District marks its 130th anniversary in 2024, with celebrations kicking off on June 27.
Several family stalls are also marking more than 15 years at Lau Pa Sat. Looking back to when she first started out, she says: “In 2002, it was never as busy as it is now. Lau Pa Sat is very vibrant and people know they can try all the food they want here.”Mr Loy Kok Cheng, owner of chicken rice stall Fragrance Garden. ST PHOTO: KELVIN CHNGThis stall is Mr Loy’s swan song, as he winds down his business in the lead up to retirement.Recently, he received an offer to open in the Philippines, which he did not accept.
She says: “Customers kept asking us when we would return to Lau Pa Sat. We were doing islandwide delivery. We thought it didn’t matter where we were. They would see us at other stalls and ask when we would return.”To her relief, she notes that the spruced-up Lau Pa Sat has attracted more people to dine in, even on weekends.
