Here's how much snow, sleet and ice is expected to accumulate from the messy winter storm that will be impacting New Jersey Thursday night through early Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the northern half of New Jersey. A winter storm packing a messy mix of snow, sleet, ice and freezing rain is expected to hit Thursday evening. While snowfall totals in the northern half of the state should mostly be 1 to 3 inches, a dangerous coating of up to a quarter-inch of ice could turn roads treacherous Friday morning.
So don’t be surprised if you hear sleet pellets hitting your roof or windowsills while you’re trying to get some sleep. Surface temperatures will eventually warm up above the freezing mark of 32 degrees in most areas Friday morning, allowing the precipitation to change to rain — except in elevated areas of far northern New Jersey, where snow and sleet are expected to last longer.
