Poverty and low levels of education leave Lao people vulnerable to human trafficking. -based rights groups have welcomed recommendations from a United Nations expert body that urged Laos to improve the situation of women’s rights and gender equality.
The “increased incidence of rape and domestic violence in the context of economic crises,” has disproportionately affected disadvantaged and marginalized groups of women in Laos, the committee said.
