VIENTIANE, June 30 (Xinhua): Laos will establish the National Center for the Quality Inspection of Foodstuff and Beverage to ensure the product is safe for consumption.

The National standards Certification and Quality Inspection Center under Laos Ministry of Science and Technology on Tuesday signed a memorandum of agreement with Tech food Co, Ltd, a Chinese joint venture in Laos, on establishment of the National Center for the Quality Inspection of Foodstuff and Beverage imported, produced and distributed in Laos.

The establishment of the National Centre for the Quality Inspection of Foodstuff and Beverage in Laos aims to provide inspection service on food and beverage to ensure the product is safe for consumption and to increase product quality in Laos. Laos Ministry of Science and Technology will cooperate with Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Industry and Commerce to manage the inspection, according to a press release issued on the ceremony.However, Laos has been carrying out tests on a daily basis for the Covid-19 since January, with the total number of tests reaching 14,907.On Sunday, a total of 1,665 people entered Laos through international border checkpoint.

The National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced it has been monitoring 3,295 people at 89 accommodation centres across the country. The Laos government has urged people nationwide to remain vigilant and continue to implement preventive measures to prevent a second wave of the pandemic. - Xinhua.
