Sabah, Malaysia, is experiencing devastating landslides and floods, displacing residents and closing key tourist attractions. A homestay in Kundasang is destroyed, while six families seek refuge in Kota Marudu. A landslide near the Sandakan Rainforest Park has forced its temporary closure.
Landslides and floods wreaked havoc on several areas in Sabah on Thursday, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. A homestay in Kundasang was reduced to rubble by a landslide, forcing authorities to evacuate residents and urging them to seek safety elsewhere. \In Kota Marudu , six families were displaced from their homes and sought refuge at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bengkongan.
This temporary evacuation center was established on January 16th as a result of continuous rainfall that caused water levels to rise significantly. The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) is actively involved in the evacuation process, ensuring the safety and well-being of the flood-affected residents. \Further north, in Kampung Nibang Pitas, a flood disaster unfolded, trapping 47 individuals at Sekolah Kebangsaan Nibang. The rising river water levels inundated the main road, making it impossible for rescue teams to reach the stranded victims. However, reports indicate that all trapped individuals are safe. Meanwhile, the Sandakan Rainforest Park has been temporarily closed to the public since January 16th. This precautionary measure was implemented due to a landslide near the SESB Grid Line pole, which poses a serious risk of collapse and potential danger to visitors
