The Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) is investigating the poor working conditions at the Monaplex plastic factory in response to a report that exposed the factory's failure to provide protective and safety measures for its workers. The commission found zero employee training, zero health and safety policy, lack of personal protective equipment, and poor staff welfare. Further investigation is ongoing.
The commission is reacting to TheCable’s two-part investigation which exposed the poor working conditions of factory workers in the state. The report investigated the condition of Matthew Eworo, a 29-year-old worker whose hand was stuck in the base of an active mixer while on a night shift at the Monaplex plastic factory. The report also exposed the poor working conditions at Monaplex and the factory’s failure to provide protective and safety measures for its workers.
The commission visited the factory for inspection and found zero employee training, zero health and safety policy, lack of personal protective equipment, and poor staff welfare. The LSSC stated that there was poor emergency response following the accident and further investigation is ongoing
